Cam Skattebo NFL draft: 40 time, height, weight for Arizona State star RB

At some point during Arizona State football’s magical 2024 season, Cam Skattebo became something more than just a star running back on a team that enjoyed one of the biggest year-to-year turnarounds in modern college football history.
He became a cult hero.
Skattebo was the offensive catalyst for a Sun Devils team that went 11-3, won the Big 12 and advanced to the College Football Playoff. While helping engineer that eight-win improvement, the Sacramento State transfer finished second among all FBS players in rushing yards and was fifth in Heisman Trophy voting.
It wasn’t just those accomplishments that endeared him to fans across the country; it was the way he went about it. At under 6 feet tall and 215 pounds, Skattebo was a thick-necked, rumbling ball of brawn and physicality that’s something of a throwback, a running back who plows through defenses rather than scampering around them. It doesn’t hurt his name’s fun to say, too.
Skattebo’s college heroics naturally raised questions about how he might fare in the NFL, and where he might get drafted. His destination in this week’s NFL draft will be determined in part by not only his production at Arizona State, but his various measurables — height and weight, vertical jump, weight-lifting marks and, perhaps most importantly, how fast he can run.
As the 2025 NFL draft nears, here’s a closer look at some of Skattebo’s measurables, including his time in the 40-yard dash:
Cam Skattebo 40 time
Though he took part in the NFL draft scouting combine in Indianapolis, Skattebo did not run the 40-yard dash while there.
During a workout on March 27 that was closed to all but some NFL scouts and teammates, Skattebo reportedly ran the 40 in 4.57 seconds. That would have ranked him in a tie for 19th among the 24 running backs who ran the 40 at the combine, though considering that speed isn’t considered one of Skattebo’s defining traits as a rusher, it’s an impressive time.
Cam Skattebo height
At the combine, Skattebo was measured at 5 feet and 9.5 inches, a bit shorter than his listed height of 5-foot-11 at Arizona State.
Cam Skattebo weight
Skattebo weighed in at 219 pounds at the combine. He was listed on Arizona State’s roster last season at 215 pounds, though that discrepancy could very easily be tied to his pre-draft training and lifting regimen.
Cam Skattebo vertical jump
Skattebo was logged at 39.5 inches on the vertical jump at the combine, ranking him in a tie for second among all running backs there.
Cam Skattebo NFL draft projection
In his seven-round NFL mock draft, Dane Brugler of The Athletic has Skattebo going to the reigning AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs with the No. 95 overall pick in the third round. Brugler has Skattebo as the seventh running back off the board.
Cam Skattebo stats
Across two seasons at Arizona State, Skattebo ran for 2,494 yards and 30 touchdowns while averaging 5.5 yards per carry. He was a receiving threat out of the backfield, too, catching 69 passes for 891 yards and four touchdowns during that two-year stretch.
Here’s a year-by-year look at Skattebo’s numbers from his college career:
- 2021 (Sacramento State): 57 carries, 520 yards, 9.1 yards per carry, 6 TDs; 12 receptions, 124 yards, 1 TD
- 2022 (Sacramento State): 195 carries, 1,372 yards, 7 yards per carry, 7 TDs; 31 receptions, 371 yards, 3 TDs
- 2023 (Arizona State): 164 carries, 783 yards, 4.8 yards per carry, 9 TDs; 24 receptions, 286 yards, 1 TD
- 2024 (Arizona State): 293 carries, 1,711 yards, 5.8 yards per carry, 21 TDs; 45 receptions, 605 yards, 3 TDs
